Medicare UCCs are located in existing general practice settings, community health centres and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.
They are staffed by highly trained medical professionals, and provide culturally safe, equitable and accessible care to all people, including vulnerable and young people.

Reducing the pressure on our hospitals

Medicare UCCs help reduce pressure on our hospitals and emergency departments, allowing them to focus on higher urgency and life-threatening conditions.
They provide urgent care in a GP setting, so you don’t have to wait in the emergency department. Medicare UCCs are open early and late, seven days a week.
  • Health Services

Working alongside existing health services

Medicare UCCs build on, and integrate with, existing health care services to provide urgent care for extended hours.
After your treatment at a Medicare UCC, you will receive a discharge summary and instructions for follow-up care. If you have a regular GP, they will also receive a copy of your discharge summary.
A range of different care options are available across Australia. More information on the care options in your area will be available from your state or territory health department, local Primary Health Network, or by searching the Healthdirect Service Finder.
